Christ not only changed the way that I acted, He also called me to preach His gospel. At the time this change came about I was struggling and did not have a job, but the Lord supplied me with what I needed, when I needed it. I started going to school at North Greenville University pursuing a Christian Studies degree. I was taking about 6 hours a semester-all night classes. I was a rock mason for several years and then I did electrical work for about 3 years. Being an electrician was, by far, the best job that I had ever had at that point in my life. I was able to work practically as many hours as I wanted. This was good because at age 22, I married to my wonderful wife, Heather. However, working 50 hours a week and going to 2-3 hour night classes was very overwhelming, plus there are only so many night classes offered at NGU. So my wife and I, after much prayer, decided to start a tree business of our own.
I bought a set of climbing gear off a buddy and went into the backyard and taught myself how to climb. At first we only did tree work on the weekends. We realized that tree work may be the opportunity that we needed for me to be able to attend day classes at North Greenville. After much prayer, we decided to, quite literally, go out on a limb and start our own business, and JB Trees. This was hard because the electrical job was steady and the other was anything but.
I have
been in school for 6½ years and I am still plugging away. As of now, I
intend to continue in my business, but only to support my ministry. I love
my life and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I have a wonderful wife and a
new addition to our family. My baby boy, Titus, who was born on June 1,
2007, is awesome. I can’t understand why God would see fit to bless me so
much. The only explanation is LOVE. Because of what God has done in my life,
I could not think of a better name for my business than JB Trees. Jesus(J)
and Brannon(B), I know that He owns it all anyway and I just get to be a
part of it.
